He was unexpectedly diagnosed with late-stage cancer at the end of January and spent the recent two weeks in hospice with visits from many friends and family. He is survived by his mother, Wai Chen, his daughters and son-in-law, Winnie and Catherine (Curtis) Hughesman, grandchildren Kai and Makena, brothers and sisters-in-law, David (Diane), Peter, and Edwin (Shelley), nieces and nephews, Lauren, DJ (Addison), Sarah, Eric (Angela), Kenrick (Emily), and grandnephew Evan, together with in-laws, Yvonne Hughesman (Bruce Smith), and brothers and sisters in-law of Alice’s family, Helen Hong, Bill (Elaine) Wong, Ida Mok, Peter (Lei ) Wong, Cindy (Sunny) Lee, Heidi (Henry) Poon, Eric (Willa) Wong, nieces and nephews Andrew (Erica), Clara (Adrian), Cyrus (Debbie), Irene (Terrence), Cindy (Brian), Michael, Alexandra, Helen, Willy, Christine (Joshua), Vincent, Bertina (Brian), Cassandra (Vatanak), Kathleen, and many grand nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Alice in 2010.
Immigrating in 1976 from Hong Kong, Louis and Alice worked hard to raise their two daughters to become accomplished lawyers. He worked as a registered dental technician before retiring. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, dinners with friends and family, daily crossword puzzles, handy projects around the home and tinkering with cars. He was a hard working family man who lived a modest life.
A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM
Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
