John is lovingly remembered by his four children, Joseph (Devra), Francis (Donna), Michael (Sandra) and Annamaria Drewniak; grandchildren: Tracey, Andrew, Theresa, Carrie (Chris), Robert (Melissa), Alex (Tom), and Angela (Justin). Beyond his grandchildren, he is remembered by his eight great grandchildren, adding to those names are numerous nieces and nephews within Canada, Poland and Italy. John was predeceased by his mother, Anastasia; his father, Joseph; brothers, sister, son Anthony, and four years ago he said goodbye to his loving wife of 63 years, Lucia Drewniak Nee Materiale. John was born on September 9, 1919 in Postolowka, Poland where he lived until 1939. He enlisted into the Polish army on April 26, 1942 till 1946. He survived the war, married Lucia Materiale and adventured to Canada in 1948 where they eventually settled in Saskatchewan working for the Canadian National Railway, 35 long years then off to Alberta in 1994. John was a true sign of a family man: Strong Catholic faith, loving father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather; he was a jack of all trades from keeping his garden to tending to his bees.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayer Services at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 640 19 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB on Sunday, October 26 2014 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s on Monday, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Marius Sztuk of St. Joseph’ s Catholic Church as celebrant. Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Polish Combatants Association, Branch 18, 3015 15 Street N.E., Calgary T2E 7L8, in the memory of John Drewniak. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
