Jeffrey Gordon Currie

Jeffrey Gordon Currie passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the age of 59 years. Jeff is survived by his wife of 36 years Joyce (nee Whitnack); his daughters Samantha Werth and Patricia Currie; his son-in-law Travis Werth; and grandchildren Matthew and Peyton Werth, and Benjamin Hailey. Jeff is also survived by his father Walter; sisters, Maureen, Kim (Les Crozier), Alanna Lackie (Mark), Tara Koochie (Bill); his brothers Kirk, Wilfred (Alma), Troy (Shawnda); close cousin Brian Rollman (Debbie); best friend Frank Reid; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jeff was predeceased by his sister Lori Snippa, biological father Charles Gordon Snippa, his mother Patricia Currie (nee Rollman), nephew Matthew Lackie, sister-in-law Theresa Currie (nee Ingenhaag) and grandson Johnathan William Werth.

Jeff was born in Calgary Alberta at the Holy Cross hospital on November 4, 1957 to Patricia Ina Rollman and Charles Gordon Snippa. At the age of nine he was adopted by Patricia's second husband Walter Currie. He grew up in a military family spending a good portion of his childhood living on C.F.B. Calgary in the Currie Barracks and was given the nickname "Boomer" by friends. While there he played hockey for the base team and later played junior and senior high school football for the Forest Lawn Titans. After high school, Jeff played two years of junior football for the Calgary Trojans. When his football career ended, he spent many years coaching midget hockey for the South Four Flyers association. During his coaching career he led his teams to numerous championships including the midget "BB" in 1984. Jeff was also assistant coach for the Calgary Ladies Softball Association team The Clippers, during which time they won several western champions and competed for the national title. He had a love of all sports and was a lifelong Calgary Flames, Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Blue Jays fan! What Jeff loved most of all was to be with his family and friends. He loved hosting large family gatherings for the holidays, football and hockey games and would invite anyone that wanted to come and have a good time. He was a dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all!
