James (Jim) Alexander Runnett

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sarah “Sally”; his son, Brent (Yvonne); his grandchildren, that he loved so much, Morag and Tesia; his sister Marion of Calgary; and his brothers Bill (Eleanor) of Kamloops, and Larry (Sandy) of Vernon. He was predeceased by his father Bob (1982), mother Kathleen (2007), and his sisters Alberta (1934) and Kathleen (2020).

Born on November 28, 1937, and raised in Calgary, Jim was always active in the local community. He did charitable work with the Active 20/30 Club in his early years. He was also active with baseball coaching and umpiring. Jim was involved with curling in Calgary for most of his life. He won his share of bonspiels over the years and represented Alberta at the Canadian Seniors Championships in 1992. Jim was also deeply involved with the Southern Alberta Curling Association and served as its President. He enjoyed teaching curling to beginners and was often behind the scenes helping to organize bonspiels and national events like the Brier or Scotties. Jim was proud to have been in charge of the curling facility during Calgary’s 1988 Olympics. His professional career was spent in the oil and gas sector. In his later years, he continued to spend his time golfing with Sally and enjoying his time at the Glencoe Club.

A Memorial Service for immediate family was held Friday, February 11, 2022, at Foster’s Garden, Chapel 3220 - 4 Street NW, Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) followed by a Private Graveside Service at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
