Hazel was born in Creston, B.C. of Norwegian parents. She grew up in Crawford Bay where she married Verdun Brown in 1942. Loverna, Tom and Lou were born but in 1950 Verdun died in a logging accident, leaving Hazel a widow at the age of 25. Hazel remarried in 1956 to Euan Cameron and Aenea, Conrad and Astrid were born. At 40 years old, Hazel joined the staff of the Canadian Pacific Airlines office, and worked there 26 years. At 55, she joined the Airlines running team, Kajaks, and continued running till she was 78, achieving three Canadian Records in Masters Competitions around the world.
She is survived by five children; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and her sister Helen Burich.
A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held for family and friends in Crawford Bay, B.C. in September 2019 the weekend after Labor Day.
Hazel will be dearly remembered, not only by immediate family, but also by her extended family, sports friends and colleagues.
