Fon (George) Lung passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024 in Calgary, Alberta, having lived a full life of 85 years. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ming Gee, their three sons Ken (Victoria), Gene (Corrine) and Tim (Robin), and their grandchildren Daniel (Penelope) and Jamison.
George was born in Bon Kin, Hoi Ping, Guangdong province, China. He was the youngest of three children and the only son of Kee See Lung and Wan Ho Lung. George left China in 1947 at the age of nine years in the midst of civil war to live with his father who had previously come to Canada with the hope of starting a better life for his family. They lived in rural Alberta, first in Champion and later in Carbon. He married Ming Gee Law in 1957 at which time he was also reunited with his mother. They moved to Calgary where they raised their sons providing them all with a university education through years of hard work at their small grocery store. George also worked as a real estate agent. He was a proud leader of the Calgary Independent Grocers Association representing small grocery store owners and, until recently, an active member of the Leong Chong How Tong family association.
George will be remembered by his family for the courage to come to Canada at a very young age to seek the opportunity for a better life. It was not easy, but it has become the foundation for the success and happiness for the generations of his family which have come afterwards. Husband, dad and grandfather, rest in peace.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tina Hoang and her team of caregivers at the Chinook Hospice Centre for their compassion and exceptional care for George.
