I fondly remember summers with Aunt Evelyn, Uncle Maurice, Brad, Dana and Brandi at the lake.  Some things I remember most are when they visited in their Winnebago, sleepovers at Gramma's and waterskiing.
I remember when Uncle Maurice pulled up to Gramma's driveway in that big Winnebago – I was enamoured – and maybe that's why we have a motorhome today!  In fact I can still see him learning out the window and smiling.  Funny – maybe that's a picture somewhere that I am remembering but that memory seems really clear to me – can almost feel the sunshine and the breeze that day. . . such a strange thing to have such a vivid memory after all these years, but wonderful all the same.  
And I remember fondly, many shared birthday celebrations with Dana.   Family dinner, presents and Co-op cake times two!

Mom, thank you for all our special memories we had together.  Many times I recall our family trips in the summer to the lake to visit with aunts, uncles, and cousins and with Grandma and Grandpa Evans; it was always so much fun!  I treasure your ability to make every occasion and celebration exceptional!
My fondest memory is the love and kindness you shared with my children Grace and Caleb.  Grace loved your crafty side and fun activities you did together.  Caleb will miss the weekend sleepovers and your trips to the candy store.  I will miss our dinners out and your companionship when Jamie was out of town for work.  Your amazing thoughtfulness for the people around you was incredible.  We will miss you, but will cherish the many memories we have of you!

Dana Northrup (eldest daughter). . . 

One of my special memories with mom happened when I moved back in with her in my late 20's.  I think she was happy to have some company with her again and her own personal hair stylist!  I would do her hair every few days and she really like that.  While growing up I also did her hair often and when I was not around Brandi was to help her. 
As well, her compassion for anyone was amazing.  My good friend Nancy was home one day with her little sister making soup.  Well, the hot soup on the stove spilled on Nancy's little sister and Nancy called Mom.  She came over right away; assessed the situation and took Nancy's sister to the emergency room as she had burnt her hand.
Mom was always willing to be there for anyone at any time.  Amazing lady. . . my Mom was.

My sister, Evelyn. . . 

My earliest fond memory of my sister Evelyn was when I was around 4 or 5.  I was allowed to ride my bicycle down the street as far as the highway where I would wait for her to get out of high school, cross the highway and we would go home together.  I was always so proud to go home with her and her friends.   I missed her when she finished school and left to enter a nursing career.
Many may know she was an April Fool's baby - and I played many pranks on her birthday.  She must have really been glad when I finally grew up and just wished her Happy Birthday instead of annoying the heck out of her.
 She was a good big sister and often included me in her early married life with Maurice.  We spent many weekends at the cottage, boating and water skiing.  Then life happens, we move to different parts of the country and slowly drift apart.  
Although I can't be in Calgary in person, my thoughts have been with her these past years during her health issues.  She no longer has to struggle, she is at peace finally and reunited with the love of her life, her husband Maurice.  
My thoughts are also with Brad, Dana & Brandi and their families - that would be the one regret Evelyn would have had - that she would have to leave you so early.

Rest in peace , Sister -I love and miss you but I know you are in a heavenly place.

A Tribute to My Sister, Evelyn Rose Fehr

Evelyn was born in the small community of Viscount Saskatchewan April 1, 1942.  Though our young years often consisted of change and uncertainty, our single mother consistently provided love and care. . . life on a farm setting in rural Colonsay and then on to Prince Albert to live with our grandparents, Rose and Albert Collins.  When our mother remarried, further moves took us to smaller communities as our stepfather transferred within the CNR system.   In the mid-fifties, our new family structure included a wee bundle.  The little sister, Patricia brought joy and also some concern re position as Evelyn was now a middle child.  
During the five years of residency in Rosthern, SK. Evelyn blossomed in school, gleaned many friends, explored figure skating and was introduced to the piano.  It became apparent that appearance and fashion was important to Evelyn even at a young age.  
While in the eighth grade (I was in Grade 10), our step-father was transferred to Prince Albert.  We did not want to leave our friends or to be placed in a new school mid-year, so we convinced our parents that we could cope by living in a single bedroom in a boarding house with a hotplate, a few dishes, a double bed and a weekly train pass to Prince Albert.  We travelled Friday night to PA and returned with clean clothes and food for the following week on Sunday night.
One winter weekend I convinced Evelyn that she could travel independently to Prince Albert and back.   Unfortunately a portion of the train derailed and the passengers had to cope with a cold environment and wait for the snow-plow to open the tracks and reposition the cars.  My sister never fully forgave me for the frightening experience she had to face.  Trains were not her favorite means of transportation.
As a teenager, Evelyn quickly acquired an interest in fashion.  To compete with the outfits purchased by her friends rather than home-made clothing created by our mother, she accepted a babysitting job that proved to be most accommodating financially.  Store bought sweaters, skirts and other apparel were proud purchases.  She maintained that interest throughout her life. . . with the largest collection of shoes, purses and jewellery, regular trips to the hair salon and monthly manicures! (The Shopping Channel created a new interest for her during the latter years of her life.)
Prior to graduation from Prince Albert Collegiate, Evelyn explored worklife at the Holy Family Hospital as a candy stripper and then chose employment with the Victoria Hospital.  She washed and disinfected test tubes, etc.   It was during those early years of employment that she decided to leave the security of home and register in the three year nursing program at Calgary General Hospital.   Life in the big city captured her attention, broadened her circle of friends and opened new areas of interest.  She was proud to be a registered nurse.  
December 1, 1961, Evelyn completed an assignment re her philosophy of life. . . 
I believe our first thought is what we want out of life and how to go about getting it.  My ambition now is to be a nurse, not just any nurse, but one to whom people can look upon with respect and trust.  I realize this means hard work and true devotion.  I also believe that life is only what you make it.  You may choose either the hard or simple way, but to be a success at anything you must work diligently and strive for your goal. 
Two years ago, in a biology class in high school a statement was made by a teacher who had many years experience.  He said, and I quote, ‘to have life you must have death.'  Death, a word many people dread and fear has since then come to mean something different to me.  It is our ultimate goal in life.  This is what we live for, what we fight against, but what eventually we can not escape.  It is truly the ultimate end.
It is wonderful to have high ideals, but unless one lives up to them they are fruitless. I had always wanted to be a great person, whom people would notice.  But now, as I begin my career in nursing, I feel I am doing something great for my fellow man, and less for my own selfish reason of fame.
Life never runs a smooth, troubleless path and this too I have found out.  It has its ups and downs, but I feel with a real faith in God one can cope with their problems if they face them, and then conquer the issues.    

A handsome young salesman from Winnipeg captured Evelyn's heart and on August 27, 196¬¬6 Evelyn and Maurice Fehr were married in Prince Albert SK.   They resided in Calgary during the first three years of their marriage and were thrilled with the arrival of their first-born, Bradley in 1969.  
Following their move to Saskatoon Evelyn worked the mid-night shift at St. Paul's Hospital (cardiac unit).  Their family grew with the birth of their first daughter, Dana Sue in 1973.  Eventually the family returned to Calgary.  Their youngest daughter, Brandace was born January 27, 1977.
During her nursing employment in Calgary, Evelyn assumed extra responsibility in the profession as she accepted an additional role in negotiating employment issues that her colleagues faced in the 80's.  It proved to be a demanding time on her health with the responsibility of motherhood, employment and negotiations.
Her concern for the welfare of others grew, in particular, for persons placed in nursing homes.  She accepted leadership and administrative positions in a number of centres within Calgary.  It was with reluctance due to continued personal medical demands that she chose early retirement in 2006.

Evelyn always maintained a keen interest in the health needs of family and friends.  In 1996 during my journey with cancer, she took an active supportive role as she responded to concerns expressed by my husband and often listened to my fears and sobs.  One day a large parcel arrived with a beautiful handmade doll enclosed with a message attached:  For my sister. . . you need something to hug.  
A sister is a ‘forever friend.'  I will miss our long telephone conversations, her current political updates, recent accomplishments she proudly described about Grace and Caleb, her generosity as unexpected parcels arrived or a recent purchase that she felt would be just right for me. 
Though your earthly journey has ended, Evelyn, we will feel your presence in the lives of your children. . . Bradley and Lesley, Dana Sue and Andrew, Brandace and Jamie. . . and your grandchildren. . . Grace and Caleb, Ethan and Hudson.  Thank you for your love, support and for being a caring sister, Evelyn.

 Allow me to start by saying I wish I could be there with you all to celebrate and reflect on Auntie Evelyn's life.  I have many fond memories of her and I am grateful that I knew her and that she was part of my family.
When I was younger, I greatly looked forward to our occasional trips to Calgary, or to when uncle Maurice and auntie Evelyn would bring my beloved cousins Brad, Dana-Sue and Brandice to Saskatchewan to spend a couple of weeks out at Emma lake.  Time would be spent waterskiing, fishing or swimming at the beach and these are some of my absolute favorite memories of childhood.  Trips to Calgary to visit them were always “wicked” too!  The many different houses and different parts of the city that they had moved to always promised a new part of Calgary for me to explore.
I will always cherish the memory of Evelyn's wry grin and dry sense of humor.  Many times during our visits, I felt that we shared, private, inside jokes between us and I will miss that.  A roll of her eyes, look on her face, or an impatient sigh from her would always trigger my smile and laughter.  I appreciated the conversations we had and I was always interested to observe the behavior of Evelyn, who was quite laid back, in contrast to my mom who, as most of you know, can be quite tightly wound at times.  In fact, in a lot of ways, I saw Evelyn to have a bit of a rebel in her, which was the antithesis of my mom, with their little sister Pat falling somewhere in between.
 When I had a stroke roughly two years ago, auntie Evelyn was the first one from the family to call me while I was in the hospital in Calgary to make sure I was OK and I will always appreciate that and am grateful for her sincere concern.  She often displayed the love for her grandkids by telling me various entertaining stories about the exploits of Grace and Caleb.  The time spent with them was precious time auntie sincerely cherished.  For those of you who were at my grandma's (Betty Evans) funeral, will surely remember the childhood picture of Florence and Evelyn with their fancy new hairdos.  It was a great picture.  
I will miss auntie Evelyn a lot, as I still miss uncle Maurice and think about him often.  I was so lucky to have that 3-day road trip from Wisconsin to Saskatoon with him shortly before he passed, as in those three days, we really got to know each other, adult to adult. I am sure that if there is a heaven, they are looking down upon us now.  Brad, Dana, Brandice and the grandchildren; I am so sorry for your loss, as it was quite sudden and there was not much time to prepare for your mom's passing.  I am also very sorry I couldn't be there with you today, but please know that I am with you in spirit.  The last few conversations I had with your mom were very upbeat, filled with laughter and something I will always cherish and remember about a very special lady.

My prayers are for you all at this sad time...Evelyn was such an important part of our family and she was my dear friend.  I will miss her .

I have known Evelyn for most of my life, since I was a young girl, as I became and always remained friends with her daughter Dana.  I remember and will always be grateful for the day she came to my aid when (as a 14yr old) I was babysitting my little sister, who got burned from hot soup.  I didn't think to call 911, but immediately called Evelyn instead. Without delay,she came right over and administered first-aid to my little sister.  Amazing.  Because of her presence in my life, through Dana, she helped shaped who I am today.  Our warmest condolences to the Fehr Family from myself and my family. Love, Nancy and the Risdon family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in the passing of Evelyn, we are long time friends of your parents. Ken and Maurice use to work at Vanguard trailers and Mid-West to-gether, we have many fond memories of the good times with your parents, we send our deepest Sympathy.
