Dale is lovingly remembered by his wife Grace; his daughters Missy (Barry), Lynda (Darcy), Shugie (Mark); his sons Barry (Bonny), Jack (Kathy), Ron (Arlene); his step-daughter Shelley (JP); his brothers Eldon (Mary), Ron (Zoe), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dale was predeceased by his first wife Grace, his son Bill, and granddaughter Cassandra.
Dale was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick to Herbert Wilson (also from Woodstock) and Annie Wilkins, originally from Glasgow, Scotland. Dale and his family moved to Montreal at a young age, he was a sea scout during his teenage years, and was also able to pursue his keen interest in hockey which he played for many years, later acting as a coach for his sons.
Dale married in 1952 and had seven children with his first wife, Grace Barry. He worked hard as a part owner of an Air Conditioning business in Montreal to support their large family, but also found the time to get away on weekends to enjoy camping with his children. Dale decided to move West and came to Calgary in 1979, where he decided to take up square dancing, where he met another Grace! They subsequently got married in 1984, and settled in Calgary for good. Both Dale and Grace worked at the Rocky View School District, Dale as a Custodian and Grace as a secretary, until 2002. They then moved to Okotoks, and enjoyed their retirement years with many trips South in their RV, summer long golf games, camping, playing games and cards with friends, travel in various parts of the world with their friends at The Friendship Force, and of course, square dancing. In fact, Dale and Grace were part of a group of Square Dancers during the 1988 Olympics, which was a once in a lifetime experience!
Unfortunately Dale suffered a stroke in the fall of 2019, and despite a remarkable recovery and Dale’s persistent efforts, he had to move to Long Term Care for the last year, with the COVID pandemic making it even more difficult for all.
A family only memorial service will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. The Service will be officiated by Chaplain Darrell Wood of Okotoks.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada(www.heartandstroke.ca).
