Andrée Diane (Dubé) Castonguay

Survived by her eldest daughter, Andrée Koke-Flanagan (Seamus) of High River, Alberta, granddaughter Sommer Kelly (Patrick), great-grandchildren Bentley and Brett. Nana to Martin Flanagan (Heather), Michael Flanagan, Elaine Côté (Guy), great-nana to Kieran and Duncan Côté, all of Calgary, Alberta, and many, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband Jean Paul Barry Castonguay, daughter Roberta Denise Chiasson, mother Juliette Dubé both of Thunder Bay, Ontario and father Roland Dubé of Montreal, Québec.

Andrée was an only child. In her youth she attended private convent schools in Montreal, Quebec. She loved playing the piano, especially the boogie-woogie tunes. She also loved playing tennis and dancing. She had wit, humour and was always a lot of fun. She never lost her cute French accent. She was caring, generous and kind. After graduating, she took a job in a shirt factory. She and a girl friend decided to head west in pursuit of career opportunities, and to learn English. They found work in Fort William, Ontario. She studied as an apprentice at a beauty salon where she obtained her beautician license. It was during this time, she met and married the father of her children, Robert Dennis Tucker. Her greatest joy was bringing her two daughters into the world. She spent her entire life nurturing and loving them.

Later she became a grandmother to Sommer, and great grandmother to Bentley and Brett, who brought so much happiness in to her life. She truly enjoyed being a grandparent and had so much love for her family.

She was a member of the Royal Purple Lodge in the 70’s. She studied language arts at Lakehead University in her 40’s.

In later years, she drove special needs children to and from school for Lacy’s Taxi until she retired. She volunteered for mayoral campaigns in Thunder Bay and the Calgary homeless shelter.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing bingo, scrabble and camping with friends and family. She was also known for her wonderful cinnamon buns and lasagna.

Andree was a life long Christian and a member of the Free Methodist Church of Thunder Bay, until she moved west to be close to her daughter.

Cremation will take place at South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium. There will be a private family service at Mountainview cemetery in Thunder Bay, Ontario at a later date.
