Michael Howard Snyder, age 79, formerly of AuGres Ml, lost his battle with Parkinson’s Disease on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at home with hospice care. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Genevieve Snyder; and sister, Penny Henne. He is survived by Jan, his loving wife of 56 years; their children Melissa (Rich) Susan of Byron Center, MI, Jeffrey (Suzzanne) Snyder of Jackson, Ml; grandchildren Sarah (Marcus) Bradstreet, Kaitlin Susan, Merrick Susan, Nya Susan, Will Snyder, and Gillian Snyder; brother-in-law, Bruce Henne; sisters-in-law Myrna McConoughey, Sheila (John) Landis; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
After graduating from Midland High School in 1962, Mike attended Central Michigan University, earning a BS and MA in School Administration. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army. Mike was a teacher and administrator at Bridgeport High School, Principal of Napoleon High School, and retired from education in 1998. Mike served in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary as Flotilla Commander. In 2001, he became a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisee with his son, Jeff, in Jackson, Michigan. Mike was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Tawas Hospital volunteer, Arenac County Commission chair, and Co-chair of Arenac County Democratic Party. For over 30 years, he was a presenter and historian of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Mike was a lifelong traveler on the Great Lakes, enjoying fishing, sailing, and power boating. Mike and Jan traveled the world from China to Europe. They welcomed generations of family and friends to their home on the shore of Lake Huron with open arms.
A private family celebration is being held in Byron Center on January 29, 2023. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Michael J.
