James Steven Weems

James Steven Weems' zest for life didn’t come to an end with his death. Jim passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 after a short illness, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Jim was born Sept. 2, 1955, in Ypsilanti, MI, to Jim and Delores Weems. As a young man, he spent countless hours at the family property near Edmore, MI, where he learned to love hunting, snowmobiling, hayless rides, and bonfires. As an adult, Jim’s ability to make everyone feel comfortable, secure, and loved were his greatest strengths. He was a hardworking and giving man. Not only was he committed to his job, family, and friends, Jim was a man of faith, passionate about giving back to the community. His grandchildren were his everything.

Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betsy K. (Peterson) Weems; daughters Amanda (Justin) Elliott and Lindsey (Jared) Willman; son, Tyler (Alycia) Weems; sister, Norma Weems; brother, Britton Weems; and grandchildren Brogan, Alysa, Bentley, Levi, Autumn, Jace, Scarlett, and Stella. Jim is preceded in death by his son, Joseph; parents James W. Weems and Dolores M. Lafleur; and sister, Nancy Schuette.

Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17; Memorial Service 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. The visitation and service will be held at Cornerstone Church, 1675 84th St. SE, Caledonia, 49316. The service will be live-streamed. Link for live stream: www.youtube.com/c/CornerstoneChurchGR.
