Wayne Kent Barksdale, 78 of Bertram, Texas, went to be with the Lord, Oct 13, 2016. He was born in Goose Creek, Texas on February 8, 1938. He was preceded in death by his father Ernest John Barksdale and mother Hazel Bollinger Stanley. He is survived by his wife Judy Barksdale, son David Barksdale and wife Kathi; son Russell Barksdale and wife Mary Jane; son Shannon Barksdale and wife Karen; and seven grandchildren Victoria, Alexandra, Cole, Dawson, Taylor, Brittney and Colton Barksdale.
He graduated from Glenda Park High School and attended the University of Houston before joining the Army.
In 1963 he met and married Judy McFarland and celebrated 53 years of marriage and was blessed with three wonderful sons.
He began his career with the Texas Highway Department building the transportation infrastructure thorough the greater Houston area. Later he transitioned into commercial building with H. A. Lott Co. in Houston, where he served as chief engineer on the Astro Dome in 1963. He would later join the Foster Wheeler Group building oil refineries throughout the United States. In the early 70’s work brought him and his family to central Texas where he built the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. Other accomplishments include the Master Builders Award for constructing the Harlingen International Airport and international phase of the Dallas/Ft. worth Airport.
He had a distinguished career in the construction industry that span 42 years, but he felt his greatest accomplishments was his marriage, three sons and his relationship with his Heavenly Father.
He attended First Baptist Church in Bertram for 42 years and served as Deacon (later Deacon Emeritus), Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and Choir Member.
Visitation will be held Sunday October 16, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. Funeral services will be held Monday October 17, 2016 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Bertram; burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne’s name to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children PO Box 199300 Dallas, TX 75219-9842.
