James “Jim” Anthony Woolley, 71, of Briggs, Texas, passed away peacefully at his Sun City home on December 2, 2015, surrounded by his family. Survived by his wife Mary Kirick; three children Jeff (Lee) Woolley, Monique Woolley, and Mindy Woolley; four grandchildren, Emilee, Elliot, Elizabeth, and Ryder; two siblings Donald Woolley and Faye Webb, and his beloved dog Blu.
Jim was born December 3, 1943, in Canton Ohio to the late Herman Frederick Woolley and Marie Virginia Deringer Woolley.
Jim attended Mckinley High School (Canton, OH), participating in the Math Club, Science Club, Diving Team, and Track Team (Pole Vaulting), graduating 3rd in his Class of 1961.
Jim attended Ohio State University (Columbus, OH) on academic scholarship. Was a member of the Ohio State University Swim Team as a Spring Board Diver from 1961 to 1964. He received BS and MS degrees in Ceramic Engineering in 1966, and PhD in Ceramic Engineering in 1970.
Jim joined 3M (St. Paul, MN) as a Senior Engineer in 1971 and worked as a scientist, supervisor/manager, and director in technology. Relocated to Austin, TX with 3M in 1985 with their Product Development Laboratories. Became Director of 3M's Inkjet flex circuit business in 1991 and GM of Microinterconnect Systems Division in 2000. Retired as VP of 3M Microinterconnect Systems Division at the end of 2003.
Jim married the love of his life, Mary Kirick in 1991. After retiring from 3M, they settled into their new home and ranch in Briggs TX in 2000, specializing in raising mixed Boar Goats and Llamas. Jim also enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, photography, travel and visiting his children and grandchildren.
Jim was actively involved in his community, sharing his leadership skills with the local Fire Department in Briggs, TX. As an Auxiliary Member of the Department and began serving as the Board President in 2010. In addition, Jim volunteered as a business mentor for the SCORE chapter 249 of Austin from 2011 through 2013.
In November of 2009, Jim was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a rare cancer of the blood plasma cells. Jim underwent radiation, chemotherapy, and stem-cell transplant. Jim achieved remission in 2010, but when the cancer returned, ultimately treatment was ineffective.
Jim was one of a kind, a brilliant and generous man. We are blessed to have known him. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
A Memorial Service in memory of Jim will be held at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet on Sunday, December 6, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Briggs Volunteer Fire Department (P.O.
