James Martin Collins accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at 8 years of age during a revival at First Baptist Church in Ropesville, Texas. Because of that decision, when he breathed his last breath on earth at his home in Burnet on September 12, 2023, at the age of 85 he then entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior.
Jim was born September 1, 1938, in Brownfield, Texas parents Myles and Montie (Flenniken) Collins. He married Wanda Epperson in Ropesville in 1956. There they lived until their move to Burnet in 1995.
Jim was a cotton farmer from 1956 until 2021, a commodity trader from 1980 until 1987, and worked for the Texas Prison System from 1992-2004.
While living in the Ropesville community he and Wanda were members of the First Baptist Church. Jim was a very active member of the community. He was a long-standing member of the Ropes School District School Board, Booster Club and the Lions Club. Always interested in the activities of his children, he transported the kids to school and Church functions in which they were involved. Going water-skiing and snow skiing were among his favorite activities.
With moving to Burnet, they then joined Hoover’s Valley Baptist Church. Jim enjoyed playing dominoes and, until his eyesight prevented, golf. He enjoyed attending his grandkids activities and listening to gospel music videos with friends.
In recent days, Jim and Wanda joined the Lake Victor Baptist Church. He had a deepening relationship with the Lord in recent years and enjoyed sharing the plan of salvation with many he met, including nurses and neighbors to mention a few.
Surviving family include his wife of 67 years, Wanda Epperson Collins, daughter Sherri Peacock (Dewey), sons Craig Collins (Marci) and Cary Collins. Grandchildren Miranda Morley, Alicia (Patrick) Wilkes, Tabetha Collins, Collin (Alejandra) Peacock, Cody Peacock, Karleigh (Tucker) Cox, Michael Collins and Maxwell Collins and 6 great grandchildrens. Jim is also survived by his sister, Nancy Collins Thetford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Myles Lyndon Collins and sister Faye Marie (Collins) Dunavant.
Visitation will be at 12:00 PM Saturday, September 23 one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Burial will take place at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 26 at Resthaven cemetery in Lubbock.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Lake Victor Baptist Church.
