David Halbert

David Andrew Halbert was born June 2, 1929 in Bertram, Texas to George W. Halbert and Florence Elisabeth McLoud. David grew up in Oatmeal Texas where he graduated from high school in 1947. He was the youngest of 9 children. David passed on December 3, 2017. He is survived by his children Andy Halbert & wife Jo Halbert, Kevin Halbert and Lori Halbert; his grandchildren Ashton, Bailey, Tres, Nicholas, Ryan and Mathew Halbert; great granddaughter Madison VanGorter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Judy Halbert, his parents, all siblings and his son Terry Wayne Halbert. He was close with his sisters Mary, Katie and Lois. All his other siblings passed as children or infants. He also grew up with his nephew, Bobby Brown which was more like a brother to him than a nephew.

David was the original Mr. fix it. It might have not been pretty but it was functional. He never had a repairman or a mechanic work on anything. He taught their children what a man, father and husband should be. He was brutally honest. A more honest and helpful person could not be found.

David served two years in the US Army in the late 1950s. He was a hard worker. In the 1960s he worked at Graphite Mine as a mechanic and electrician and also had a TV repair shop. In the early 1970s he went to work at Fort Hood for the Department of Defense as an electronic technician until he retired in 1995. David was a great provider for his family.

David and Judy loved traveling and David made sure there was a family vacation taken every year. He enjoyed looking at scenery on the road trips they would take.

His great passion in life was playing music. He started playing the guitar in his teenage years and then took up the fiddle around age 30. He spent decades playing at dances and entertaining people across Texas. He played regularly until the summer of 2016.

David entertained for many years at the Marble Falls Senior Activity Center. Donations can be made to the center at 1200 7th Street, Marble Falls, TX 78654.

His memorial service was held as a joint service with his wife, Judy on December 3, 2017 at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet Texas.
