August 21, 1952-August 21, 2022
On a peaceful morning surrounded by family in Round Rock, Texas, on August 21, 2022, Bryan D Milliorn’s name was called to enter the glorious gates of Heaven. He was saved and knew the Lord, and Bryan’s family believe that he is cruising around meeting up with his loved ones who have gone before him. No doubt, he will be able to see and drive and his pain will be gone.
Bryan fought a courageous battle against many odds before succumbing to a heart attack. Some say that life is the dash between the day you were born and the time that you die. Bryan’s dash, the life he lived, was abundantly full.
This quiet, reflective man came into the world on August 21, 1952. He was born in Burnet County to Ovil D Milliorn and Maudie Laverne (Totsie) Golden. Bryan had three sisters, Beverly Ann, Barbara Sue and Deanie and a brother Loman D (Bud). The Milliorns lived in the Buchanan Dam area where they owned and operated Lakeview Inn and The Anchor. He was preceded in death by his father in 1959. Totsie later married Harold Murchison in 1965, and he was a wonderful stepfather to her children. They lived in Buchanan Dam and the Long Mountain area before moving to Burnet. In the 1960s, Bryan was instrumental in helping build the Long Mountain RV Park on Lake LBJ. They owned and operated the park for many years, making life-long friends and memories. In fact, they were known for having some of the “biggest fish frys” on the lake.
Bryan was a thoughtful son and loving brother to his siblings. He attended Burnet High School for twelve years, graduating in 1972. He joined the Army National Guard in 1972, attending basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and was in the Military Police. He married Nancy Frazier and had two children, son Kurt D Milliorn and daughter Kristin Michelle Milliorn. Bryan D was a partner in the Performance Shop and later owned Dahopa Oil Company. He was also a reserve police officer for Burnet County.
On a hot and humid August 1, 1987, Bryan D and friends drove into Austin for a fun evening. There he met the love of his life Lynita (Nita) Appleton Smart. After a lengthy courtship, they married on September 3, 1998, and continued to live in Burnet, Texas. He was a positive influence on Nita’s two sons, James Larry (Jamie) Smart Jr. and Kevin Wilson Smart.
Together, Bryan D and Nita, owned and operated numerous convenience stores in Burnet. Currently, they own Badger Car Wash and Dawg Car Wash. He was known as a fair and honest businessman who would literally “give you the shirt off his back”. He was a very giving person always doing things behind the scenes, whether it was making a payment for someone in need or rearranging a property line to help out a tenant. Having been a life-long resident of Burnet County, Bryan D had a wide variety of friends. He had many friends in law enforcement as well as those who were ranchers, hunting buddies and car enthusiasts, and just his everyday “coffee-drinking buddies”—his friends were from all walks of life, ranging from young to old and rich to the less fortunate. He understood and practiced the art of real friendship.
His hobbies included hunting, tinkering with and showing muscle cars, riding the roads of Burnet County and reminiscing, and breeding and raising trophy white-tail deer and dapple goats. Working with his hands brought him extreme joy, but his greatest pleasure was watching his grandkids, Kurt Jackson, Kenedi and Caybree, and D.J. and Donnie, play sports. He is remembered fondly, as Grandpa and PawPaw Bryan, by his grandkids for his advice and encouragement about sports and life.
Survivors include wife Nita Milliorn of Burnet, daughter Kristin Milliorn of Burnet, grandson Kurt Jackson Hannabass of Burnet, stepson Jamie Smart (Tiffany) of Lometa, grandson Donnie Smart of Lometa, grandson D.J. Smart of Stephenville, stepson Kevin Smart (Casey) of Lampasas, granddaughters Kenedi and Caybree Smart of Lampasas, sister Barbara Williamson (Ben) of Kingsland, sister Deanie Smith (J.C.) of Bertram, brother Bud (Ann) Milliorn of Burnet and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Ovil D Milliorn; stepfather and mother Harold and Totsie Murchison; son Kurt D Milliorn, and sister Beverly Milliorn Haynes.
