Born in Zhongshan in the Guangdong province of China in 1923, Ying Yuk went to Hong Kong after the Second World War. He worked as an apprentice in a tailor supply store. In 1957, after marrying Share Hing, he began running his own business in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. He operated the business until 1976, when he immigrated to Vancouver, Canada with his wife and four children.
Since arriving in Vancouver, Ying Yuk had been actively involved with numerous benevolent associations and community organizations. He developed a great interest in singing and took voice lessons for many years. He volunteered by singing at fundraising events, on festive occasions and in elderly homes. He always brought laughter and smiles to the people around him.
For two decades, Ying Yuk enjoyed his morning walks around the Queen Elizabeth Park and his daily trips to Chinatown until he broke his hip from a fall in 2003. After the hip surgery, Ying Yuk resided at the Brock Fahrni Pavilion where he was well taken care of by his wife Share Hing, his family, and the nursing staff. The family would like to thank the caregivers and nurses at the Brock Fahrni Pavilion for the loving care in the past seven years. On September 18, 2010, Ying Yuk passed away peacefully in his sleep with his beloved wife Share Hing by his side.
Ying Yuk was a loyal, caring and loving man. He will be fondly remembered by his devoted wife of 53 years, Share Hing, his children Teresa (and Thomas), Nellie, Frances (and Robert), John (and Margaret) and his grandchildren Amanda, Winston, Sean and Spencer. Ying Yuk will be dearly missed by his family, relatives and friends.
