Yam Chun Chu was born September 2, 1944 in Kwong Tung, China. He leaves behind his loving wife of fifty years, Wai Hung Chu and three devoted children Eric, Corinne and Bill.
Yam and his father in- law Kam Mo were hired to head the dim sum division at Ming’s Restaurant in Chinatown in 1974. Deciding he would like to make a home in Vancouver, Yam and his family immigrated to Vancouver British Columbia to start a new life. He was employed at Ming’s Restaurant as a dim sum chef for a few years and then opened his first business called First Dim Sum House on Keefer St. in Vancouver’s Chinatown. Subsequently Yam went on to open Sky King Restaurant, and Kayon Restaurant in succession.
Yam enjoyed preparing and eating delicious foods. He would host big seafood feasts for family and friends every chance he gets. Yam’s joy is watching people eat and enjoying food. His big heart and generosity will always be remembered by his family and friends. We will miss him very much!
