Oct 27, 1923 – Mar 3, 2019
Art Bain passed away peacefully at his retirement home in Aldergrove, BC on the evening of March 3rd at the age of 95.
Art was born in the Vancouver General Hospital on October 27 in 1923 and grew up with his parents in North Burnaby. He was fiercely proud to be a native born Vancouverite and that his grandfather had brought their family here in 1887 to help build the new city of Vancouver.
Art was a veteran of World War II where he served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp.
After the War, Art worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway in the late 1940s but settled into a career of working on the waters of the BC coast, first in the tugboat industry and eventually working his way up to Bridge Officer and Master on many of the ships in the BC Ferry Fleet. However, Art never forgot his original love of Steam locomotives as he could often be found trackside all over the continent taking pictures of restored, historic steam locomotives.
Art was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Starrett) and Daughter Bonnie. He is survived by his remaining children Dan & Tim, grandchildren Brooke, Ryan, Shannon & Aleena and great grandchildren Nathan, Adam & Claire.
Funeral service will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 12pm.
