Dad died from a heart attack in Burnaby Hospital on November 20, 2018 at the age of 88 years. We believe Dad actually died from a broken heart after losing Jean, his beloved wife of almost 65 years, less than 3 months earlier. He is survived by his children Stanley (Christine), Gary (Inseon), Nancy (Ming); grandchildren Ryan, Darren, Linnea (Jason), Warren (Elaine), Jason (Cathy), Stephen, Jordan, Lauren and Bryan; and was predeceased by his parents Wing Jun and Suey Fong Wong. Dad was born in Hoi Ping, Guangdong, China on May 10, 1931, where he was raised by his mother after his father immigrated to Canada when he was a young boy. Dad and his mother followed his father to Canada in 1949 and he married Mom 4 years later. He worked as a waiter in the family cafe and as a shingle packer for many years and was a co-owner/operator of a sawmill and a restaurant supplies wholesaler before he retired in 1987. Dad was very intelligent, insightful and enterpreneurial, notwithstanding his lack of formal education, which made him even more proud of his children’s scholastic and business achievements. Dad was always charming, generous and well-liked by all. He will be missed. His funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday December 4 at Forest Lawn Chapel, 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby. Visitation is 8 to 9 pm on Monday December 3. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations can be made to Burnaby Hospital Foundation, 3C Cardiac Care Unit, in Memory of Shue Teen Wong. The family thanks the doctors and nurses at Burnaby Hospital for their care and compassion.
