July 8, 1919 – November 4, 2014
It is with sadness and heavy hearts, the family announces the peaceful passing of Tom at the age of 95. Tom may be best known as the owner of the Evergreen Patch grocery on West Broadway and Yew in Kitsilano where he ran his business for over 30 years. His Christmas presents of preserved ginger to loyal customers and free grocery delivery to pensioners won him a place in the community's heart. Evergreen Patch was the hub for many of the work force of Kitsilano from 1950s to the 80s. An avid gardener at his home on 5th and Balsam, Tom was a spirited badminton player and was a passionate fan of the Canucks and Lions. Predeceased by the light of his life Betty. Tom is survived by his brother Dave (Elsie) Soon; his loving children Howard (Wendy Schon), Valerie (Brian Ross) and Terry (Tanya Scharman); grandchildren Tricia (Chad Buchanan), Andrew, Elliot (Alicia Blackstone) and Nathalie and great- grandchildren Zachary and Connor. Tom will be missed by many grandnephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Canadian Cancer Society. Thanks to all the caring and compassionate staff at Brandt Creek Mews. Say farewell to another 'old timer' of the Kits neighbourhood. Visitation on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Location: Forest Lawn Chapel, 3790 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC.
