Psalm 84:10 “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”
Mrs. Man Woon Pang-Mak went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ peacefully at the age of 90 on April 28, 2015.
Mrs. Pang was born in China on September 17, 1925 in a middle class family in Naklou City, Shunde District, Guangdong Province. She had two younger brothers and one younger sister. During that time, girls were generally neglected. Even the rich families would only send boys to go to school. But Man Woon’s father loved her very much and sent her to school to receive education. Unfortunately both parents passed away when Man Woon was 16 years old. As the eldest child, Man Woon took up the responsibility of taking care of her siblings. After World War II, life in China was very hard, so Man Woon decided to go to Hong Kong to find work. Because she was smart, hardworking and willing to learn, she earned many people’s trust and appreciation. Soon afterwards, she was able to bring her two younger brothers to Hong Kong and helped them find a living, settle down, and get married. All the while, she financially supported and nurtured her younger sister in China to go to school until she graduated from Guangzhou Lingnan University.
After numerous advices and urging by her aunt not just to care about others but should also pay attention to her marriage, Man Woon started to think about her own future. Then she met and got married to a nice, honest man, Mr. Kung Wu Pang. After marriage, Man Woon treated Mr. Pang’s family and friends as her own family. Besides taking great care of her aged mother-in-law, she also looked after her sister-in-law who was very sick and bedridden.
Man Woon and her husband loved each other very much and had two daughters, Senia and Irene. Man Woon was a great model of a wife and a mom. Though her burden of caring for the old and the young was very heavy, she never complained. She not only worked very hard to help support her family financially, she also took very good care of them. The family lived a simple life filled with love and joy. Unfortunately, Mr. Pang passed away in 1989. A few years later, the older daughter, Senia, was married to Allan Chin. They have a son, Thomas and they now all live in San Diego, California, U.S. The younger daughter, Irene, immigrated to Vancouver in 1997 and Man Woon moved to Vancouver the same year to live with her.
After moving to Canada, Man Woon had the opportunity to go to church and hear the Gospel. When she realized the precious grace and salvation that Jesus died on the cross to redeem her from her sin, she decided to give up her almost 60 years of Buddhism belief and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was devoted to following Jesus and was baptized in 2001. After accepting Christ, she deeply experienced God’s love, peace and joy. She was eager to study the Bible, learned to rely on the Lord and used the rest of her life to serve Him and glorify His name. One of Mrs. Pang’s favorite bible passages was Psalm 84.
Mrs. Pang will be deeply missed and always remembered with love by her family, relatives and friends.
