It is with deep sadness that the Chong family announces the passing of their loving husband, father and grandfather, Melvyn Pon Yim Chong, age 91, on September 24th, 2022 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Melvyn was born on August 18th, 1931 in Moy Kok, Sunwui, Kwangtung, China. He moved to Canada in 1947 with his father, On King Chiang, after his mother passed away. He married Rita Yuk Sim Tsang on June 13, 1955 in Hong Kong, and together they had seven children, Calvyn, Alvyn (Celina), Gavyn (Arnielle), Kelvyn (Sue), Marvyn (Mavis), Daisy (Willis) and Ruby (Kerry), as well as nine grandchildren (Kevin, Brandon, Jaclyn, Jarrett, Tyler, Jaime, Jordan, Mason and Maegan).
He was a dedicated and hardworking Cannery Worker at Seafood Products Company Limited in Vancouver and Port Hardy, and retired in 1997. After retirement, he loved spending time at Hastings Park, going out for dim sum and enjoyed gathering with family for dinner.
His leadership, generosity and enthusiastic spirit will be forever remembered in our hearts.

Funeral will be held at the Ocean View Cemetery on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 1:00pm to honour and celebrate his life.
