Margaret born in Aberdeen, Scotland, was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Tobin; husband, William Lawson; and siblings Mabel, Henry, and Evie.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Joan Dyson and Brenda (Bruce) Burroughs; Grandchildren, Karen (Alfred) Burroughs-Chan, Jill (Inderpal) Sehmbi, and Devy Dyson (Michelle Siy); Great Grandchildren Tobin and Aubrey Chan; and her family in Canada, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia and USA.
Margaret grew up in Aberdeen with a spirit for adventure and faith for a better life. She married Bill in February 1950, and moved to Abadan on the Persian Gulf where Bill was working for the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. Then, leaving Aberdeen in 1951, Margaret and Bill with Infant Joan chose Canada for their next adventure. Bill came by ocean steamer from London to Niagara Falls to meet Margaret who flew from Aberdeen. Bill, Margaret and Joan travelled across Canada by car, settling in Burnaby where Brenda was born.
Margaret, a cancer survivor, lived with hope and optimism. Always frugal but loving to shop, she was both creative and generous. After Bill's passing, Margaret continued to work at VGH until her retirement at 65, and travelled to Russia, Scotland, Belgium, Australia and New Zealand. Her grandchildren became her passion and she was their biggest fan. Super Grandma could always be found behind a camera, capturing their every move.
Margret was a people person who appreciated her friends. When she walked into a room everyone knew she was there. She had a wonderful smile, generous heart and always a kind word. Margaret's love for the outdoors, sports and flowers continued until she passed. She is fondly remembered by generations of the family and always had a sincere interest in their education, successes and well-being.
The family wishes to acknowledge the Staff of Kiwanis Care Centre and Dr. El Masry for their care and compassion for our Mom over her eight years with them. Many thanks to family and friends for all their support, and especially to her dear friend, Cecilia Pilmer, nephew, John, and niece, Aileen for their visits over the last months. By request, Margaret will be buried with her husband, Bill, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
