She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her daughters (Irene and Kitty), son-in-law (TJ), and grandchildren (Gwen, Wesley, and Koen) at St. Vincent’s Langara Long-Term Care.
Mandy was born in Guangzhou, China, to a loving family of eight, to father Chan Po Lam and mother Tang Sau Ching. She had two elder brothers, one elder sister, and two younger sisters. She left school early to focus on her family, becoming their primary caregiver. She developed a love and talent for cooking as she took on the role of the family’s main chef. In her late teens, the Chan family moved to Hong Kong, where she continued caring for her family and also worked at her father’s textile factory.
Growing up, Mandy was an avid movie enthusiast and enjoyed going to the cinema with her best friend and listening to music. She also loved traveling and visited many places in Southeast Asia and Europe with her sisters.
In the late 1970s, Mandy met her future husband, Frank Liu, and they married a few years later. During the early to mid-1980s, Mandy gave birth to two daughters, Irene and Kitty, while also venturing into the children’s fashion business with her sisters.
In the late 1980s, the family of four moved to Vancouver, Canada, to start a new life and provide better educational opportunities for their children. Mandy continued working as a textile seamstress, but her main passion was caring for her family and being a devoted and loving mother.
In the early 2010s, Mandy was diagnosed with Parkinson's and dementia. From the mid-2010s to the early 2020s, Mandy became a proud Po Po (婆婆) to three grandchildren.
After battling her illness for years, Mandy was moved to St. Vincent’s Langara Long-Term Care, where she received dedicated care for her conditions. During her time there, she cherished visits from her family and grandchildren.
Our family is forever grateful for the love and care she received from St. Vincent’s Langara during her final years.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, a private viewing followed by cremation will be held for immediate and extended family only. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Parkinson Society British Columbia or Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
親愛的媽咪, 我們永遠懷念妳!
We will forever remember your unconditional love, your kindness, your thoughtfulness, your grit, your silliness, and your warm smile.
May you rest in peace.
