Mr. Jack Wing Chow

Jack Wing Chow passed away peacefully from natural causes, receiving the love, appreciation and comfort of his wife and four children at his bedside at Vancouver General Hospital on February 9, 2021, at the age of 90. Jack is survived by his loving dear wife of 63 years, Jean (née Lew); his four well-raised dear children, Roderick, Reginald, Barbara and Debra; his cherished daughters and sons in-laws Sylvia, Betty, Warren and Perry; and his wonderful grandchildren Jack, Nicholas, Daniel, Juliana, Michael, Melody and Amber.

Jack was born in Cumberland, BC, where he often loved to return, together with his family, to bring back fond memories of his elementary school days, and the days of running his family’s Chow Lee General Store. He was a distinguished Chinatown Pioneer, honoured twice by the Village of Cumberland. Jack moved to Vancouver to go to high school. He later met and married his beautiful and loving wife Jean, and together they proudly brought up their four fine children.

In business, Jack was sharp-minded, passionate and inventive, taking him from being a successful top Chinatown Realtor to creating what may be the most recognized and unique family owned Insurance Brokerage in the world – Jack Chow Insurance, operating out of his World’s Famous Building and Chinatown Heritage corner properties on Pender Street in Vancouver, BC. Jack was truly admired, praised and respected by all.

Jack will always be loved, and his family will always be grateful to him for all his dedication to family unity and togetherness. He will always be remembered for his lifetime of achievements, and for all he has done to impart upon his wife, children and grandchildren, his positive attitude, his inspiring and innovative vision, and his always optimistic outlook. Jack was an exceptional, remarkable and magnificent person, and we are so proud of everything he did for us and for others. We wish for him now to rest in peace, love and joy with the comfort that we will look after our mother and each other, and that we will continue to carry on his great legacy that he and our mother have built together for us to cherish.

Funeral services will be held safely at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in a private, immediate family only service due to COVID-19 restrictions on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Flowers (to be delivered to Forest Lawn by 3:00 pm on February 26, 2021) are well appreciated or donations may be made in memory of Jack Wing Chow at VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation at http://vghfoundation.ca/jackwingchow.
