It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, Glen Eng on December 15, 2021 at Royal Columbian Hospital. He was born on February 3, 1929 in the village of Fu Chung, in Zhongshan, Guandong, China. Glen immigrated to Vancouver with his mother, Lee Yee Jan Eng and younger brother Jack in 1949 to join his father, Kenneth. Shortly after, his younger sister Barbara was born. Glen attended Vancouver Technical and Templeton High School, while learning about the nursery business at Grandview Greenhouses. Our dad met and married the love of his life, Anna, who was his soulmate for 65 years. Glen and Jack helped their father Kenneth open Kenny’s Nurseries in Coquitlam, which became the local favourite for bedding plants, poinsettias and Easter lilies. The annual Mother’s Day sale was always the busiest three days of the year, with hundreds of hanging baskets sold and countless gardens beautified. The success of Kenny’s was due to the dedication and hard work of the entire Eng clan. Glen loved to spend time with his family, and we have many fond memories of our vacations. The Asia tour was very special, with dad proudly showing us the village he grew up in and the beauty of his birth country China. Dad maintained strong ties with his roots through his continued involvement with the Zhongshan Association, where he was an active member. To his group of friends, dad was well-respected as “Dai Gor” and they enjoyed countless mah jong games and meals together. We all share Dad’s love of food, which brought our extended family together for many meals. Enjoying delicious meals with Uncle Jack and Auntie Barbara’s families always brought a huge smile to his face. Glen’s special passion was photography. He took pride in his camera collection, taking family photos and also meeting up and travelling with his photographer “buddies” to capture award-winning shots. In his later years, Glen showed his strength, resilience and determination in overcoming many health issues. He was dubbed “The Miracle Man” in the local newspaper. Always appreciative and grateful, he showed his gratitude by frequently saying “Thank You” – to his family, friends and health caretakers. As a husband, father, uncle, grandpa, and friend, Glen’s generous spirit and loving, kind nature and will be greatly missed. We love you dad. You will remain forever in our hearts.
Glen is survived by his wife Anna, daughters Janet, Donna (Michael), Nancy, Diana (Joe), brother Jack, sister Barbara (Al), grandchildren Megan, Nathan, Alexander, Ian, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Glen is predeceased by his parents, daughters Helen (Stephen) and Linda, sister-in-law Florence and brother-in-law Bucky.
Visitation on Wednesday, December 29 (4:30 – 6:30 pm) at Forest Lawn. A private service for family members will be held at Forest Lawn on December 30. Memories and condolences can be made at www.dignitymemorial.com
