It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who left us at the age of 56.
Danny was born in Vancouver, B.C. to Isamu and Kachiko Higashitani. He attended Lord Selkirk Elementary School, Gladstone High School and U.B.C. After completing his Chemical Engineering degree, Danny worked in the private sector working on large projects overseas and lived in Thailand for 1 ½ years as well as a short time in the U.A.E.
Most recently, Danny worked for 26 years at Indigenous Services Canada. He worked closely with First Nations leaders and community members and in particular, water system operators. He became friends with many of them. Danny helped design, build and more importantly, operate and maintain safe water systems which helped improve the lives of thousands of First Nations in B.C.
Danny enjoyed his job and working with all of his colleagues. They respected and regarded him highly and he was admired by many. So many benefited from his expertise, integrity, patience and support.
Danny was passionate about travel and visited all 7 continents. He had so many incredible stories about the people he met and the places he visited. He was athletic and played many sports. Hockey and golf were his two favourites.
Danny had a big circle of friends that he kept in close contact with over the years. He was happiest when he was spending time with his friends and his family. Many of them shared that he was “the nicest guy.” It has been said that he has left an incredibly huge void.
Danny will be greatly missed by his siblings, Lillian (Thomas) and Sandy (Marichelle); niece, Ashley; nephews, Connor and Justin; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of Danny’s remarkable life will be held on Friday, May 3rd at 1pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home; 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC.
