Time passed by so quickly.  Can't believe it's one year already.  Happy birthday uncle and you will be forever missed.

Today marks one year since you left us, dad.  There is not a moment that goes by that I don't think of you.  We miss you dearly and you will forever have our love, respect and gratitude.

Happy bday dear uncle Daniel. Missing you v much and hope you are having a great time in Heaven. Happy Valentine’s Day to you too. Much love and happy bday again.

First Christmas without you Dad, it's still so unreal to me.  I miss you dearly, I can only hope that you're at peace now.  Love you loads.

This was during Ryan's birthday and we all got $300 from yeye! Ryan got $500 of course because it was HIS birthday but yeye didn't want us to feel left out so he gave money to all of us too! I'm sorry that I won't be able to take you out to eat food (that was what you had always wanted us to do). But love you to bits! Miss you!

Dear Daniel,
Pardon me for my tardiness (shock + grief) to finish this message today after a month.  

A prominent and successful banker at BNP HK in the 80’s. I was extremely lucky to be selected by you as your secretary in the Chinese Desk, Commercial Banking.  Your humorous remarks during my interview was still remembered.  When you learned that my current job was a secretary in the Quarries Dept of Pioneer Concrete, you then said with a grin: 
“Right on, as you’re dealing with quarry stones, & my name is 石. Perfect Match, so please come to work asap!”

That’s how I began my employment with BNP HK. I was more than grateful to be working under Mr. Daniel Yiu, vigorous training & guidance, to perform fast & efficient work in the highly competitive world. 

He was well known to be a quick & demanding boss with sound & shrewd judgement. But outside of work, he was open, friendly, humourous and generous to staff.  He would never be arrogant & aloof.  On the contrary, very personable & lively. 

It is indeed very difficult to accept the truth that he really left us. However, his wonderful legacy will be forever cherished. 

He will be fondly missed.

Dear Daniel,

I have written numerous emails to you that began with this greeting and it's difficult to believe that this is the last message that I will be writing to you. Thank you for always caring for me during my time in SFK and beyond. Instead of your employee, I felt more like a part of the Yiu family since I have known you, Anita, Thomas, Nat and Ash for years before I officially joined the Springfield. 

Whenever you visited the office, you always urged me to take you to the capsule toy machines in Wanchai (up until the office lunch that we had back in Dec 2022) and how I wish I still have the chance to do so. Thanks for the genuine care and wise advices you have given me, in terms of work, immigration, relationship, and just life in general. I will always remember that you told me the best thing about me is that I love smiling and laughing and I am sure you are now living happily in heaven, smiling at us as well.

That time both the Yiu and Kwok families met for the first time in Vancouver back in the summer of 2019. I remember being both nervous and excited … and then also remember that feeling slowly turning to dread when my dad ended up arriving 2 hours late 🤦🏻‍♂️

I was so upset and embarrassed because we all had to wait around for so long before dinner could start … but you took it all in stride, never flinched an iota of frustration and showed the utmost patience and kindness through it all. Looking back, we laugh now at the way it all unfolded, but I will always remember how understanding you were, how happy you were when we all got together, and how seemingly kindred spirits you and my dad were becoming through the endless chit-chat. I still smile now thinking back to that day. 

Fast forward to 2023, I can’t believe that you’re not here with us any longer. The past few years, you have welcomed me into your family with open arms and we’ve created many beautiful memories along the way. I will always remember your positivity and generosity, your iron will and steadfast determination, the fun and joy that you emanate, encouraging each one of us to squeeze more happy drops out of life, and the love for your family and friends that you proudly flaunt with unabashed swagger. 

Thank you for being you, and thank you for trusting me with your beloved daughter. I’m grateful to you for giving us your blessing to get married, I hope that knowing this before moving forth to your next journey gives you more peace. I regret that we didn’t do this sooner, so that you could witness our wedding. Trust that she is in good hands, and that I will love her and take care of her for you. I wish we had more time for this son-in-law to get to know his father-in-law better, but I am thankful for those memories that we have shared during the time that we had. 

You will never be far from our thoughts, we all miss you. Until we meet again, rest in everlasting peace.

Dear Daniel,

Regretfully I haven't had many opportunities to learn from you, but already from the few meals and conversations that we did have, there have been valuable takeaways which I think back on often - you always negotiated; you always asked questions; and you always ensured that matters are handled correctly and lawfully, leaving no margin of doubt. You had incredible business acumen, which was undoubtedly reflected in the way you carried conversations and the many successes that had followed you. I had also witnessed this first hand in your relentless pursuit for concrete information during the inquisition phase of a project that we had considered.

You also had an extensive knowledge of oysters. I recall that in the first meal that I had with you and Terence in Vancouver at Joe Fortes, you were already inquiring about the availability of certain oysters before the waitress was able to hand you your menu. While I was still Googling through the menu list, you already had your order down.

But above all, and beyond your many successes, skills, and knowledge (including oyster knowledge), you were principled, honest, genuine, kind, and generous. You ensured everyone in the office was well taken care of, and made sure to mark joyous occasions with good food. Despite our limited encounters, I'm grateful to have known you and learned from you.

Daniel has enjoyed a full life surrounded by family members and good friends. Daniel was always there to brighten the lives of others. 
He will be missed but not forgotten. Rest in Peace my friend.

Dear Yee Jeung,

As a child, I remembered you as being incredibly generous, always giving me pocket money every time I saw you. As an adult, you graciously let me stay with you and Yee Ma whenever I went to HK to visit, turning a blind eye to all those times I came home in the wee hours of the night, and including me like I was one of your own children in all of the family dinners. You put your trust in me and gave me the chance to help you and your family with your real estate needs. Thank you for the love, generosity, business advice and opportunities you have given me throughout the years.

Dear friends,

Here are a few heartfelt words to celebrate the life of Daniel Yiu, a remarkable man whose impact on my life will never be forgotten. To me, he was not just my mother’s business partner, but a mentor, a confidant and a relative.

The Yiu family was there for me from the very beginning, watching me grow up since I was born. His family, including Dolly, Terence and Thomas and Teresa, were always there for me too, teaching me all trades, including table tennis, investing, pick up girls when I was single and underage drinking.

Daniel was a man of honor and many qualities, including a determined and respectfully stubborn character that inspired us all. He was always sharp with caution, and provided shrewd yet no-bullshit advice on everything from dating to business career. I'll never forget the many inspirational quotes he would use to say, including "where there’s a will there’s a way," which continues to inspire me.  His door was open for the young ones including me to seek asylum and advice. His guidance and support throughout my life has been invaluable, and I will always cherish the memories I have of him.

To me, Daniel's children are like my own cousins, and I am so grateful to have had them as a part of my life. While we only seen each other multiple times a year, we travelled together (literally all over the world from California, Macau, Europe, to Caribbean) and they are family to me. I am grateful that I followed in my mother and Daniel's footsteps in the asset management field, and I will always remember the times we spent playing cards and celebrating numerous Valentine's Days on his birthday.

In memory of Daniel, let us strive to live in harmony and joy, as he would have wanted. Rest in peace and may you find eternal happiness!

It is sad to see Mr. Daniel Yiu left us.    As Christian, I would say that brother Daniel  is now sleeping and one day, we will meet in Heaven.  

I know Mr Daniel Yiu for years because we both worked with BNP Hongkong although in different sectors.    As far as I remember, he is always ready to help, with a smiling face.

Dearest uncle,

It has been a real shock learning that the meal together we had in November was the last one I was able to have with you.  You have left us many fond memories and wise teachings for which they will stay closely in our heart.  I still remembered the time when we were chi-sauing in SPK and was amazed at how much power an old man has.  I have since then improved and we can definitely play again when we next meet.  

Rest in Peace uncle.  Although your physical body has left us, you will always be in our heart!

Daniel, I am sorry that I do not know you too well, although I feel your business success came from your interpersonal relations and techniques in addition to your intelligence and opportunities, and certainly your kindness and cheerfulness in people and life in general. I recognize I was so sad after I heard the news, not because you are the father of my son’s girlfriend, but a very decent human being on Earth. And I know you have a good place to rest. Rest well, in my memory.
