It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and friend Chuck Bong Chin on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 -at 7:00 pm. at Villa Cathay Care Home from natural causes he was 86 years old. He passed away peacefully in his sleep with his son and daughter at his side.
Chuck was born October 10, 1933 in Guangdong (formerly Canton), a coastal province of southeast China, borders Hong Kong and Macau to On Tack Chin (father) and Yue Sze (mother). He lost his parents at a young age and was brought up by his grandfather On Duck Chin.
Our dad leaves behind his dearly loved children, son Benson & daughter-in-law Johanne, daughter Beverley & son-in- law Matt as well as his cherished grand-daughters Kayla and Paige not to mention his grandson Maverick and his furry friends Charlie and Frisson. He also leaves behind many extended family members from his wife’s side of the family.
He was predeceased by his father On Tack Chin, his mother Yue Sze, grandfather On Duck Chin and his beloved wife Choi Mei Chin.
Our dad was an extremely hard-working individual, working three jobs to support his family. He was sponsored by his grandfather when he first arrived in Vancouver, he helped his grandfather fix the bus and shuttle cars he had. Chuck was introduced by mutual friends to our mother Choi and they were married December 1, 1970 in Vancouver where they met. He eventually went on to become a fixture in Vancouver’s Chinatown, working at a produce stand and eventually landing at Yip Heung Yeun bao po (bakery). After his day job he would head over to The BayShore Inn to work at Trader Vic’s, which was a floating Hawaiian restaurant for the hotel as a butcher. He was a man of many talents and was able to fix anything with duct tape, as so he claimed.
All his hard work helped him, and his friends start up an investment company Sun Sun Investments Ltd. which they bought and sold properties.
When it came to retirement he stayed with his roots within the community and gave back by volunteering his time. He got involved with the Chin Wing Chun Tong Society of Canada and has been recognized many levels of government with the work he has done. He was a proud member of the society and was the organizations Treasurer for many years where he made many friends.
Arrangements under the direct supervision of Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
