Paul Allen Salas

Paul was born May 7, 1944 in Bay City Texas to the late Ben and Rosie Salas. He was 78 years old.

Paul graduated from Boling High School in 1963. He attended Wharton County Jr. College and Texas A&M University graduating in 1971. He worked for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service in Soil & Crop Sciences from 1971 until his retirement in 2000. He was later manager of the Scarmado Cotton Gin in the Brazos Bottom for a number of years until March, 2022. He enjoyed being PawPaw but his second love was being at that gin especially during a good cotton season.

Paul has been a member of St. Paul's/St. Luke's United Methodist Church since 1971. He was active in United Methodist Men, served as a trustee and was on a number of committees during the years. He participated in several mission trips to Mexico.

Paul was a member of American Legion Post 159 serving on the Executive Board and as a member of the Honor Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Salas and Rosie Smith Salas of Pledger, TX, brother, Armand Salas of Pledger, TX, brother, Carl Salas of Bay City, TX, brother, Mike Salas of Pleger, TX and sister, Rosemary Prohaska of Wharton, TX.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce; his sisters, Sandra Stavinoha of Hiljie, TX and Elaine Broll of Newgulf, TX; his brothers, Wayne Salas and spouse Carolyn of Lufkin, TX , and Ray Salas of Boling; his two children, Matthew Salas of Bryan and Jenny Salas of Franklin and six grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 25 at the American Legion Hall, Post 159, 101 Waco St., Bryan, TX at 2:00 P.M.

A private graveside service with military honors was held previously at the Bryan City Cemetery with his grandchildren, Matt Salas, Mike Salas, Matalynn Salas, Macey Hoskins, Brayden Salas, and Pablo Olivo, III serving as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association or St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Bryan.
