Wes Morgan, 76, died peacefully at his home in Bryan, Texas on February 17, 2014 surrounded by his loved ones. A celebration of his life is being held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, with visitation to start one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Wes’ son, Michael Morgan and grandsons whom he was so proud of; Wesley Morgan, Jeremy Allen, Jason Allen, Scott Akbari and Daylon Ratliff.
Wes was born June 12, 1937 in Monahans, Texas where he attended high school and married his high school sweetheart, Lenice “Lyn” Walker. They were married for 59 years and lived in various places in West Texas where Wes’ employment led him. In 1962 they moved to Odessa, Texas and Wes owned and operated a sheet metal business before going to work for Shell Oil Company with which he retired in 1993, as plant shift supervisor. Wes always valued hard work and there was nothing he couldn’t do with the exception of putting a piano back together that he had taken apart to fix. He was always working on something whether it was a project his friends or family needed help with or something the church needed done.
Wes was an avid Indian artifact collector and hunted many hours in various locales for arrowheads to add to his extensive collection. He loved the guitar and taught his son and grandsons to play. He also loved fishing and that led to a move to Lake Buchannan after his retirement. He lived on the water and fished from his backyard. He and Lyn enjoyed many years there before moving to Bryan in 2011. They were so happy being near their children and loved the people in the area, especially those in the Encouragers Class at First Baptist Church of Bryan. Before moving to Bryan, Wes had been very active in the Baptist Church, serving in most capacities including Deacon Chairman. Wes was also a veteran of the National Guard and Army Reserves. Wes leaves a legacy of love as he was a very loving husband, father, “poppy” and friend and will be greatly missed until we’re all together forever in Heaven.
Wes is survived by his wife Lyn; daughters, Susan Giesenschlag and husband Tom of Bryan, Sharon Hamaker and husband Gary of Brenham; son, Michael and wife Charlotte of Lake Jackson; 7 grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care and support provided by Family Home Health & Hospice. It will never be forgotten and it certainly touched and comforted both Wes and the family during the most difficult days.
If friends desire, memorials can be made to Family Hospice, 7607 Eastmark Dr., Suite 112, College Station, TX 77840
