Myron James Thompson

Myron James (Jim) Thompson went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 10, 2021 at the age of 86. Jim was born on September 23, 1934 to Bill and Marie Thompson. He grew up in Stamford, Texas where he graduated from Stamford High School and played football under legendary coach, Gordon Wood (one of Jim’s notable gridiron achievements was even mentioned in Wood’s autobiography).

He graduated from Hardin Simmons University in 1957, where he was captain of the track team. While at Hardin Simmons, he encountered a young and beautiful cafeteria cashier, named Berniece Anderson. While fumbling to show her his meal ticket he spilled a glass of tea in her lap. Young Jim was worried that the episode would doom his chances with Berniece, however, he persevered, and the result was 61 amazing years of marriage and two sons, Brian and Mike.

Jim graduated from the Grady Vaugh School of Physical Therapy at Baylor University Hospital in 1958. He also received his Master of Education Degree in Health Education from Texas A&M University in 1981. Jim devoted his life and career to helping people with disabilities to live an independent life. He served as the Director of the Dora Roberts Rehabilitation Center in Big Spring, Texas and in 1974 became the Director of the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center where he served until his retirement in 1998. Jim’s second career was teaching in the Blinn College Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Jim was active in the community as a member of the Gideons, Evangelism Explosion, the Kiwanis Club and First Baptist Church, Bryan. First Baptist Church was a very important part of his life and he served there as a Deacon and taught Sunday School and other Bible Studies. He also served on the Board of Directors for Save our Streets Ministries.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Berniece, and their son, Brian. Survivors include; Jim’s son Mike Thompson, daughter-in-law Shari, and children Jeff, Kylie, and Kelsey; Jim’s daughter-in-law; Kelly Thompson, children Amy and Cassie, and great-grandson Riley; Jim’s Sister, Nell Rosenquist; Jim’s brother, Stanley Thompson and sister-in-law Joyce; along with many nieces nephews, in-laws and countless chosen loved ones.

The family would love to hug all of you that show your love and prayers, but we also want everyone to be safe. Please know that we will hold on dearly to your thoughts and prayers. Funeral Service will be 2:00pm Saturday, February 20, 2021 at First Baptist Church Bryan 3100 Cambridge Dr, Bryan, Texas 778702.
