Services for Lynn include visitation on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. The funeral service will be held at Zion Church of Kurten on Sunday, August 28, at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Kurten Cemetery.
Lynn was born September 12, 1946 to Milton and Amy (Rosier) Kurten. The oldest of five children, he grew up on the family ranch in Kurten, TX. He attended Kurten School and Stephen F. Austin High School, graduating in 1965. He attended Texas A&M University for his freshman year. He then served two years in the U.S. Army 3rd Battalion, 5th Infantry, guarding the Panama Canal at Ft. Kobbe. After the Army, he attended Sam Houston State University and graduated in 1972.
While at Sam Houston, Lynn met and married the love of his life, Glenda Christensen, August 22, 1970. They moved back to the Kurten area in 1974 to start their family surrounded by extended family.
Lynn helped start the Brazos County Pct. 2 Volunteer Fire Department. He was a long-time member of Zion Church of Kurten and enjoyed volunteering there, and with the Kurten Cemetery Association.
He was a pioneer and advocate in the promotion and education of backflow prevention in the state of Texas. Lynn taught for TEEX starting in 1986, which led to forming his own testing and instruction company, Brazos Valley Water Protection, in 2013. He was still teaching in early 2022. He was dedicated to his profession, and appreciated by his students for his hands-on, practical experience, and instruction.
Lynn loved gardening; especially collecting bulbs and cuttings from old home sites and roadsides. His absolute joy was finding and propagating plants for others. It was a rare occurrence to stop for a visit without him sending you home with a new flower.
Lynn loved his family and friends and taking road trips to find the best steak or a new garden to visit. His kids and his grandkids were his pride and joy.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Glenda; daughters and their spouses, Kristen and Chad Eixmann, Amanda and Kevin Nash; and his beloved grandchildren, Caleb Eixmann, and Hattie Nash. He is also survived by his uncle Sigal Rosier; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Diana Kurten, Bobby and Judy Kurten, Johnny and Suz Anne Kurten, and sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Danny Toland; as well as Glenda’s brother and sisters and their spouses; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Covington and Dr. Brading and Baylor Scott and White ICU Staff, and Dr. Barker and the Palliative Care Staff, as well as Traditions Home Health Care and Hospice Care for their care, support, and positive attitudes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Zion Church of Kurten, P.O. Box 41 Kurten, TX 77862 or Kurten Cemetery Association, 3534 N FM 2038, Bryan, TX 77808.
