Floyd Robert Petroski, 91, of Bryan, died August 7, 2011, at his home surrounded by family. Services are set for 10 am, Thursday, August 11 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Monsignor John McCaffrey officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00pm Wednesday, August 10 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, with rosary at 7:00pm.
Floyd was born in Bremond, Texas, on June 26, 1920, to Henry and Phyllis Petroski. He married Julia “Lula” Kubiak on February 14, 1944. He was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan, TX. Floyd was enlisted in the United States Army and fought in World War II. He served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the Italian Campaign in Europe and received the Purple Heart. Floyd was a member of the VFW Brazos County Post 4692. He was retired from the Schnadig Furniture Corporation. Floyd enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, dancing, playing bingo with his wife, watching the Astros and Aggies and most of all, his dog Candy. Floyd was one of the friendliest persons you could ever meet; he never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation and talk for hours. He loved to share stories about being in the war and family memories. He was a handyman and never refused a challenge to repair anything, he would find a way to fix it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lula, his daughter, Carolyn, his granddaughter, Emerald Petroski, his brothers Fred and Mike Petroski, and his sister Vernice Boriskie.
Survivors include his sister Irene Brooks and husband Bob of Northville, MI; sons and daughter-in-laws, Charles and Henrietta Petroski, Tommy and Karlisa Petroski, and Larry and Sheryl Petroski, all of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Duke Hadusek of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Jason, Jacob, Kourtney, Aimee and Abby Petroski; all of Bryan, James Petroski of League City, TX and Jon and Carlyn Hadusek of Columbia, MO; and great grandchild Julia Petroski of Bryan.
