Dwaine was born on October 31st, 1932, to Roman and Lizzie Hunter in the township of Oliver Springs Arkansas. He left high school at the age of 16 in 1948, to service with the 7th infantry division 17th regiment US Army in the Korean War, as a Chosin Reservoir Survivor. Then on September 27th, 1954, he left the US Army to join the United States Air Force and served at the Bryan Air Base until September 26th, 1958.
After serving his country he moved to Huntsville TX to study lithography at Sam Houston State University. After College he went to work at Texas A&M University as copy center manager for 27 years. Later he went to University of Texas Health Science Center Houston as printing services manager where he continued to where his maroon suits on Fridays until his retirement in 1988.
He went on to meet the love of his life Debbie and they were married November 6th, 1981. They lived a full and happy life with their children and grandchildren; David and Paola Hunter of Boerne TX, Ricky Hunter of Bryan TX, Lisa Barnes of Bryan Tx, Frank and Katie Patranella of Bryan TX, and Todd Patranella and Jessica Diane of Odessa TX , Grandchildren, Carson and Ashley Hunter of San Antonio, Tamara and David Dunn of Arizona, Natalie Hunter of Colorado, Anthony Hunter of Colorado, Timothy Hunter of Colorado, Marin Barnes of Bryan TX, Dayton Patranella of Bryan TX, Anthony Welsh of Bryan TX, Natalee Patranella of Bryan TX, Emma Patranella of Bryan TX, Jacob Patranella of Caldwell TX, Samuel Patranella of Caldwell Tx, Abigail Patranella of Caldwell TX. Kenna Wagner of Odessa TX, Baylee and Gracelyn Evans of Eldorado TX, Great Grandchildren, Raven Gregory of Colorado. He is survived by his brother Donald and Lousie Hunter of Van Buren Ark and his sweet puppy Marley.
In 1988, Dwaine retired and spent his time fishing. He enjoyed bass fishing and tournaments. He enjoyed camping, boating and RV traveling. Dwaine and Debbie fulltime RV traveled for 12 years through the US. They took many cruises and enjoyed cruise ship life and adventures. He had a love of music from Stevie Ray Vaugn, ZZ Top and Blues music. He enjoyed family time and made it a priority.
Dwaine was predeceased by his father and mother Roman and Lizzie Hunter. Brothers Ferrell Hunter and Sam Hunter, Sister Rena Deforest, Daughter in Law’s Valerie Hunter and Lorine Hunter, Infant Grandson David Patranella, and former spouse of 26 years Nan Hunter.
Visitation will be held Wednesday May 29th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with a funeral service on Thursday May 30th at 2:00 pm. Graveside services will be Friday June 7th at 9:00 am at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, both organizations Dwaine felt strongly about.
