Charles Henry Yeager

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 23 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at Willowhole Cemetery in North Zulch. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Jane Yeager; his son, Lee Yeager and wife Delene of Franklin, Texas; Daughter, Lisa Bruner and Larry Goodman of Chapell Hill, Texas; daughter, Leslie Roberts and Husband Lesley of LaVernia, Texas. His 10 Grandchildren: Shawna Leonard of Bryan, Texas, Chelsey Rhodes of Arlington, Texas, Kristi Baker of Mont Belvieu, Texas, Charlie Bruner of Bryan, Texas, Jennifer Yeager of Houston, Texas, Haley Bruner of LaVernia, Texas, Diana Hicks of Junction City, KS., Drake Bruner of LaVernia, Texas, Landon Roberts of LaVernia, Texas, Layna Roberts of LaVernia, Texas. His 7 Great-Grandchildren, Taylor Leonard of Byran, Texas, Jami Leonard of Bryan, Texas, Dillon Leonard of Bryan, Texas, Cayden Yeager of Franklin, Texas, Desiree Baker of Mont Belvieu, Texas, Sam Rhodes of Arlington, Texas, Tim Baker Jr. of Mont Belvieu, Texas and one Great-Great-Grandchild, Joshua Bomnskie of Bryan, Texas. His siblings, Nancy Fincher and husband Truman, Carolyn Sims and husband Fred both of Bryan, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, C.B. Yeager Jr. and wife Thelma; and twin sisters, Ona Fay and Lona Mae Yeager.

Charles worked as a machinist in Houston, Texas before finding his passion of firefighting. He started out as a volunteer with Mt. Houston Volunteer Fire Department before moving on into a paid postition with College Station Fire Department, where he gave 19 years of service ending as an Assistant Chief-Training Coordinator. While with College Station Fire Department, Charles went back to school to further his education. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1989 with a Bachlor of Science Technical Education Degree. He taught a Fire Science night class at Blinn Jr College in Bryan for 5 years. He left College Station Fire Department to become Fire Chief at LaMarque Fire Department where he gave 5 years of service before moving to Fire Chief of Lockhart Fire Department. He gave Lockhart Fire Department 10 years of service before retiring. While working at each of these departments he taught at Municipal Fire School at Brayton Fire Field in College Station, Texas for 30 years. He also spent numerous years working and selling fire apparatuses for Martin Apparatus.

He enjoyed camping with family and friends on River Road in New Braunfels, fishing in Port O'Conner with all his firefighter friends. He volunteered his time and boat one year for the Wounded Warrior Project in Port O'Conner, Texas. He also enjoyed duck hunting with his son Lee and good friend Leon Martin Jr. He enjoyed his retire life, watching his grandchildren grow, the deer in the pasture and napping with his dog Missy.
