Mr. Steve Corey, 72, of Townsend, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019 after a short illness at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, Georgia. A native of North Platte, Nebraska, he had been a resident of Townsend, Georgia for the past 20 years. Born April 5, 1947, he was the son of the late Lester Corey and the late Nadine Nall Corey. Mr. Corey was a graduate of Georgia Tech in Atlanta Georgia where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. He was a self-employed carpenter retiring after 38 years. Mr. Corey was a member of South Newport Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for the Young at Heart class. His passions were varied and included serving others with 12 step work on the path to sobriety and cooking at home and for church events, including meals for AWANA and the Men’s Ministry for several years. He was also an avid reader and a lifelong learner.
In addition to Mr. Corey's parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Jackie Taylor Corey; son Nick Corey; and sister Sandy Corey.
Mr. Corey is survived by his children, Janet Wilson, Jinna Graves, Julianne Hope (Henderson), Joe Thompson (Sarah), Jennifer Simerson (Tom); 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M.- 12:00 P.M. Saturday, July 13, 2019 at South Newport Baptist Church in Townsend, Georgia, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 P.M. with Reverend Eric Grissino officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Newport Baptist Church building fund or the Nunally House in Brunswick, Georgia.
