Norman Wilcox Stevens

Norman Wilcox “Steve” Stevens, 86, died Friday, July 18, at home following an extended illness. A native of Miami, he moved to Brunswick in 1956, where he met and married Marian Hodge. He served in the United States Coast Guard and the U.S. Air Force Reserve and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Stevens was a graduate of the University of Miami. He worked for the Boy Scouts of America for nearly two decades and was also a manufacturer’s representative in the baby and children’s industry. Mr. Stevens was active in both his church and the community. He was a past member of Altama Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, and most recently a member of First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick. He served as an officer for the Community Concert series for many years and was also active in the Friends of the Library, the Friends of Sapelo, the Shoreline Dance Club and had been a volunteer chef at Manna House. Survivors include: his wife, Marian Hodge Stevens; a brother, Frank Stevens, of Brunswick; two daughters, Terri Simmons (Tom) of Canton, Ga., and Susan Trotti (Jeff) of Decatur, Ga.; a son, Charles Stevens (Rebecca), of Denver, Colo., and five grandchildren, Lawrence and Victoria Trotti of Decatur,Ga, Jessica Simmons of Canton, Ga., and Brody and Rowan Stevens of Denver, Colo. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Palmetto Cemetery, Brunswick, with the Rev. Dr. Bert Cramer and Pastor Russell Gladding officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
