Mary was born May 17, 1932 to Lloyd Davis and Mandy Aleen Davis in Brunswick, Georgia. She is survived by her children, Lamar (Lynn) Chasteen, Tony (Donna) Chasteen, Betty (Dewayne) Carroll, two sisters, Dorothy Mosley of Brunswick, Janice Prescott of Nahunta, one brother, Robert Davis of Folkston, 7 grandchildren: Ashley and Monica Carroll, Tony Glynn Chasteen II (Lana), Eric Chasteen (Jeanie), Albert Chasteen (Jamie), Jonathan Chasteen (Brittney), and Mark Chasteen (Kalene) and 5 great-grandchildren: Macie, Chloe, Miley, Charlee and Caleb. She was predeceased by her parents and the love of her life, Albert Chasteen.
Mary loved to cook for her family and anyone who may stop by her home. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans and made many for family and friends. She loved children and kept many in her home, as well as serving as a church nursery attendant for many years. Other enjoyed activities were gardening and solving word search puzzles. In her younger years, Mary enjoyed traveling and took many trips with family and church groups, including a trip to Israel. In later years, as her health declined, she spent many hours on the phone with her extended family.
To her family and friends she leaves a legacy of funny stories, countless precious memories, and an unshakable faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ. She epitomized love, earning her the adoration of family and friends alike.
Pallbearers will be her five grandsons and her nephew, Bennie Cox. Honorary Pallbearers are Heartland Hospice nursing staff and her many nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Golden Isles Parkway Church of God in Brunswick, with Reverends Jeff O’Neal and Billy Swain officiating. Interment will follow the service at Palmetto Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
