John Wallace Poppell, 76, of Townsend, departed this life Saturday, December 10, 2022 at his residence. A Casual Celebration of Life will be conducted on Sunday, December 18, 2022 from 3 pm until 5 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Born October 15, 1946 in Wayne County, Georgia to the late Eugene Willard and Johnnie Louise M. Poppell, he was a graduate of Darien High School class of 1957. Mr. Poppell was retired from the US Air Force. He also retired from Georgia Pacific and McIntosh County. Mr. Poppell was a member of VFW Post 15011, Red Fez Shrine Club – Alee Shriners, Savannah GA, DAV Golden Isles #36, American Legion Life Member, and Live Oak Lodge #137. He was also a member of Cowboy Church.
Survivors include his son, Sean D. Poppell and wife Sylvia Venable of Dover, DE, a brother Larry Poppell of Long View, TX, a sister Gloria Thompson of Shellman Bluff, and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest, Stevie and Patrick Poppell of Cox.
