John was born January 25, 1936 in Brunswick, Georgia the son of the late Jessie Conway Brooker and the late Lovie Myrtle Brooker. He resided in Nahunta, Georgia. He has resided in White Oak, Georgia for the past thirty-six years. He was a devoted husband and father. John served his country with honors in The United States Marine Corps. During his loyal service he was decorated with the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He later retired in 1991 as Postmaster in White Oak, Georgia. John also attended the Way of The Cross Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Conway Brooker and Lovie Myrtle Brooker; a sister, Joyce Morgan Johns. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Althea Breland Brooker, his five children, Vickie Young Lewis, Guy Gregory Brooker, Debbie Mizelle (Joe), Tammy Head (Emmett), and Chris Brooker (Kim). Also his five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive.
John loved to spend time with his family and friends. He took great pride in talking with others about his Lord and Savior. He was an avid reader and enjoyed doing mechanic work on small engines. John always loved a bargain. He enjoyed going to Flea Markets and Thrift Shops. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 during the hours of 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A Funeral Service to honor John’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 1, 2018 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Joey Chancey and Bro. Phillip Kidd officiating. The burial will follow the service in Palmetto Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers serving during the service will be Tony Self, Timmy Coleman, Drew Deloach, Richard Scarlett, Kalem Head, Phillip Head, Steven Gatch, and Jame Dunn.
