Joan Grace Brown

Joan was born May 16, 1941 in Old Washington, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Delbert (Stewart) Parlet and the late Marjorie Jeanette Parlet. She was a devoted wife for forty-four years to Terry Brown. Joan and her husband were residents of Saint Simons Island, Georgia for eighteen years before he passed. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She taught elementary school for over 10 years in Columbus, Ohio. Terry, Joan and Tracy had the pleasure of living in many different parts of the country while Terry worked for Nationwide Insurance.

After living in Ohio, California, Georgia, and New York, Terry and Joan moved to St. Simons Island, GA to enjoy their retirement. Joan eventually left teaching to work at home raising their daughter Tracy. Joan enjoyed island living and was a proud member of many clubs on St. Simons including the Live Oaks Garden Club, Newcomers Club, Lunch Bunch, Book Club and was the President of the Coasters Club for a time.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert (Stewart) Parlet and Marjorie Parlet, and her sister-in-law Patricia Thompson Davis . She is survived by her loving daughter, Tracy J. Smith (Matthew) of Bluffton, SC; three precious grandchildren, Grace Baldree, Taylor and Joshua Smith of Bluffton, SC; one brother, Jeff Parlet (Lydia), one sister, Jean Rose and one sister-in-law, Kay Abel (Dick) of Canfield, OH.

Joan loved to spend time with her family and friends. She had a true passion watching and attending many, many types of sports. Joan will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.

The family cordially invites you to the visitation between the hours of 2:00-3:30 PM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A Funeral Service to honor Joan’s life will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Pastor Shaun Olsen, Venture Church of Bluffton will officiate the service.
