Irene “Nanny” Drawdy, age 83, of Townsend, Georgia passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 18, 2021. Irene was born in Townsend, Georgia the daughter of the late Willie Irvin Cox and the late Janie Odessa Poppell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Burnell Drawdy; a daughter, Karen Lynn Drawdy; two brothers, Melvin Wilson Cox and Bruce William Cox.
Nanny, as she was affectionately known, was a lifelong resident of McIntosh County and of the Pentecostal faith. She attend the Darien Church of God. She will always be remembered as an Independent lady with a great sense of humor and didn’t mind introducing you to “Miss Piggy”, her shotgun. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed puzzles and baking fruit cakes. She always had a special love for animals. She also had a best friend who was also her sister and neighbor, Franny. Nanny will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law, Tonya Marlene Drawdy Miles and Henry Grady Miles III; three grandsons, Galen Tripp Drawdy, Chipper Marlin Miles, and Skipper Drawdy Miles ; Four sisters, Frances “Franny” Stamey (Wayne), Glenda Griffin, Jonell Kemp, and Diane Walden; one brother, Henry “Duckie” Cox (Karen). Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A visitation for will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor Nanny’s life will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, December 22, 2021 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating.
Serving as active pallbearers are Skipper and Chipper Miles, Tripp Drawdy, Stamey Griffin, Phillip Walden, and J.T. Sellers.
