Henry Lee Cooper

Henry was a devout Catholic and lifelong advocate and fighter for education. He is survived by his wife, Linda Cooper; brother, Bob Cooper; daughters, Kim Helton (Cris Helton) and Heather Cooper; and grandchildren, Lance Ridley, Austin Headrick, and Avery Headrick.

Henry was born in Louisville, Ky. on June 20, 1950. He grew up playing sports, going on to become a proud and successful football coach, mentoring many young men and positively impacting the students and schools where he taught. He was a teacher, principal, and, continuing until his death, worked to improve the educational system of Georgia. As a lifelong sportsman, Henry loved to hunt deer and elk throughout the United States. He was an accomplished angler who enjoyed fishing with his friends and grandchildren.

After meeting his wife, Linda, Henry became an active member of the Catholic Church. He was a devout Christian with an unwavering faith in God. His faith was the foundation of his life, reading devotionals and spiritual readings daily.

Outside of his professional accomplishments and active roles in his communities, Henry was also a world traveler. He and Linda visited all 50 states and traveled internationally to many countries including England, France, The Czech Republic, Romania, among many others.

To everyone who knew him, Henry was the biggest fan of the University of Kentucky basketball and football. Often decked out in his royal blue attire, he followed these teams year after year.

More than his career and his hobbies, Henry was a strong and disciplined man. Married to Linda for over 40 years, he was a man who provided stability and was respected by all who knew him. A great man of true principle and character, Henry will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27 at St. William’s Catholic Church.
