On Friday, February 3, 2023, Helen Grace Chapman, 88, of Jesup, Georgia, received complete healing as she entered into Heaven. She is once again reunited with her late husband, Alonzo James “AJ” Chapman. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Sellers and her husband, Johnny; her parents, Patrick Henry Bush and Rosalee Davis Bush.
Mrs. Helen was born in Metter, Georgia. She was a 1952 graduate of Glynn Academy. She was a supervisor with Sterling Baptist Christian School. She was also a dedicated employee with Belk Hudson, as a substitute with the various departments. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was dearly loved. Helen will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish Mrs. Helen’s many memories are her daughter, Vonda Chapman of Jesup, GA; and her son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Jimmy and Beth Chapman of Washington, GA; her sisters: Patsy Day (Grayson) of Kingsland, GA, and Wynell Walczak (Bob) of Darien, GA. There are also 7 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews surviving.
Helen enjoyed reading, tennis, crocheting, and shopping. She also loved hunting and fishing with "J." Only in hunting, she would sit in the truck and read. The trade for hunting was "J" sitting in the mall, while she shopped. Helen was saved as a teenager at Sterling Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church until going into the hospital this January. She served faithfully in the Newborn Nursery until she could no longer hold the babies anymore. She taught for over thirty years the Sunday School for the 1st/2nd grade boys and then remained in the class until her hospital stay and Homegoing.
The family will receive friends at Bible Baptist Church on Monday, February 6, 2023, between the hours of 5:00 - 7:00 PM. The funeral service to honor Mrs. Helen's life will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Landrum officiating the service along with her grandsons, Pastor Mark Chapman and Preacher Jonathan Chapman speaking.
