Hazel Tarleton Helton, 96, of Saint Simons Island entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 14, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born in Newnan, Georgia, the daughter of the late Paul Tarleton and the late Mary Stevens Tarleton. Hazel retired after many years as a Dietician with Fulton County Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Saint Simons and a member of the Friendship Finders Sunday School Class. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed crafting and cooking in her spare time.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Staton Helton, son-in-law Ralph Torrance, and three siblings: Wilson Tarleton, Clessie Duncan and Gladys Thompson.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Cheryl Helton of St Simons; a daughter Deborah Helton Torrance of Deland, FL; five grandchildren: Carol Denhof (Doug) of St Simons, Kathy Croll (David) of Durango, CO, Staton Helton (Cheryl Litrus) of Cumming, Britt Torrance of Portland, OR, and Michael Cole Torrance (Trisha) of Orlando; five precious great grandchildren, Jacob and Grey Denhof, Cadence Croll, Caroline Helton, Ricki Torrance and arriving soon baby boy Torrance. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 20, 2021, at College Park Memorial Cemetery, 3600 Adams St, College Park, GA 30337.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers any memorials be given to First Baptist Church St Simons (729 Ocean Blvd, St Simons Island, GA 31522) or First Baptist Church Blakely (790 S Church St, Blakely, GA 39823).
