Jerry was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on December 3, 1945 to Clarabel MacDonald and Glen Simpson. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1968 with a degree in chemical engineering and worked for Cabot Corporation for 43 years until his retirement in 2012.
He joined Cabot Corporation as a chemical engineer in Pampa, Texas at their research pilot plant. He held several assignments in several Cabot facilities throughout the U.S. and Canada, and traveled extensively around the world.
While on assignment in the U.K., he met the love of his life, Anne Elizabeth. They were married on July 17, 1971 and had just celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary.
On December 12, 1976, their first child, a daughter, Jamie Anne was born. A second child, a son, Mark Andrew was born on May 25, 1979.
Jerry was a kind, patient and gentle man with a love for adventure and travel.
Jerry was an engineer, who exemplified the engineering code of ethics. He solved difficult problems around the world protecting the safety of others and our environment. His contributions to Cabot Corporation had a major impact on the company’s success. As quoted from his former colleagues, “The engineering profession has lost one of the best.”
He is survived by his wife, Anne Elizabeth Simpson, daughter, Jamie Anne Hinrichs, son-in-law, Kevin Michael Hinrichs, granddaughters, Claire Elizabeth and Laura Catherine, and son Mark Andrew Simpson.
Due to the Covid situation, arrangements will be handled privately by the family. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
