Geneva Alma Spoon Crooms

Having been blessed with ninety-four and a half years in this life, Geneva Alma Spoon Crooms miraculously transitioned and was escorted by angels to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 7, while surrounded by her children.

Born on May 26, 1929, to Willie Milton and Ruby Mae Spoon, she lived in Brunswick her entire life and was educated there as well. Her working career began at S. H. Kress and later, she became an Avon representative. She also worked as a schoolbus driver for sixteen years with the Glynn County School System followed by becoming president and owner of Atlantic Neon Sign Company.

She was an avid outdoors person who loved working in her yard, caring for her flowers and garden, mowing the grass, and even doing her own house painting. Wood crafting was also a favorite hobby.

Being a devoted Christian her entire life, prior to her home going, she was the second oldest living member of the Ellis Street Church of God which later became the Norwich Street Church of God and is currently the Golden Isles Church of God. During her lifetime, she was actively involved in teaching Sunday school and participating in the Ladies’ Ministries. She is well remembered for her role as the Angel in the GICOG Christmas production of “The Journey” which ran for five consecutive years.

In 1946, she met and married William Henry Crooms who became a minister in his later years; therefore, she served as a pastor’s wife for sixteen and a half years as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband: William H. Crooms; her parents, Willie and Ruby Spoon; her in-laws, George Crooms and Irene Green; her oldest son, William Joseph “Jody” Crooms; her great-grandson, Jacob Carter; and her three sisters, Juanita Tyre, Willene James, and Norma Jean Smith.

Left to cherish her precious memories are her children: Alma Dixon (Larry) of Brunswick; Larry Crooms (Beth), Karen Denton (Kenneth), all of Cleveland, Tenn.; Danny Crooms (Karen) of Lavonia, Ga. and daughter-in-law, Brenda Crooms of Brunswick; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Adored by her family, Geneva “Nana” was the heart of their loving home. She was a devoted wife and mother who believed that her faith in God, her family and her church were the most precious parts of her legacy.

Her celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 13 at Golden Isles Church of God. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Officiating the ceremony will be Rev. Nathan Smith, Rev. Larry Crooms and Rev. Caleb Crooms. Following the service, interment will be at Palmetto Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jared Dixon, Justin Crooms, Asher Crooms, Joe Carter, Brandon Crooms, Devin Crooms, Herbie Tyre and Joel Rogers. Honorary pallbearers include the Joy Ministries of GICOG.
