Ervina “Irene” Tankersley, age 91, of Brunswick, GA., died Saturday, August 9, 2014. Irene was born in Johnstown, PA. and graduated from Hickory High School in the former Hickory, PA., now named Hermitage, PA. She attended Penn State College and worked at the former Westinghouse Transformer Division, Inc., in Sharon, PA prior to moving to the Brunswick area in 1979. Irene managed the Hilltop Inn, a motel/restaurant in Baxley, GA and worked as a nurse’s aide in Brunswick. She was a very active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she held various leadership roles including Teacher, Deaconess and Superintendent of Sabbath School. She loved her church and her family deeply. She also enjoyed volunteering at St. Mark’s Towers and singing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Branham Tankersley, a son, Richard W. Tankersley, her parents, George and Sophie Mathiedas Krichko, two sisters, Martha Krichko Bennett and Amy Krichko Generalovich Waclaski Seley and two brothers, John Krichko and Leonard Krichko.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas George Tankersley and Harry Galin Tankersley; a daughter, Faith Iris Pennington; a sister, Mildred Bogdan; two brothers, Edward Krichko and Hillis Krichko; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 9:00 am at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 am in the funeral home Chapel with Pastor Dean Read officiating. Burial will be in Taylor’s United Methodist Church Cemetery.
